Under the Electricity Supply Act 1990, all electrical installation work must be carried out by a contractor holding a valid licence issued by the Energy Commission, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST). This is not bureaucratic red tape. It is the baseline of safety.
A Suruhanjaya Tenaga-accredited contractor has passed rigorous technical examinations, demonstrated knowledge of the Malaysian Standard MS IEC 60364, and holds valid insurance. They submit work for inspection and issue a Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) — the document that legally certifies your installation is safe. Without this certificate, your home insurance policy may be void in the event of an electrical fire. Your bank may have grounds to reject claims. And you, the homeowner, may bear legal liability.

Any legitimate contractor will provide this number without hesitation. If they cannot, or will not — that is your answer. Always insist on a written quotation, a formal work order, and the CCC upon completion. These documents are your proof of compliance and your shield.
